RELATED:

An-Nawawi, a great Islamic scholar, said that it’s not allowed to wish for death just because you’re going through a tough time.

This includes times of sickness, poverty, or difficulties caused by others. Instead, if you’re struggling to be patient, you can say, “O Allah, keep me alive as long as living is good for me…”

However, it’s better to be patient and trust in Allah’s plan. Remember, being patient can lead to forgiveness of sins and a great reward!

The Quran says, “Only those who are patient shall receive their rewards in full, without reckoning(az-Zumar 39:10).

Living a long life is actually a blessing for believers, as it gives them more time to do good deeds and increase their rewards.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “No one should wish for death or pray for it before it comes. When one dies, their good deeds come to an end. A longer life for a believer is nothing but good” (Muslim 2682).

Shaykh Ibn al-‘Uthaymeen, another great scholar, said that wishing for death due to hardship or difficulty is not allowed.

Instead, we should have patience, expect a reward from Allah, and wait for relief to come. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Victory comes with patience, relief with distress, and ease with hardship.”

Remember, every difficulty or hardship we face is an opportunity to expiate our sins and earn rewards. Even a small prick from a thorn can be a means of expiation! So, let’s strive to be patient and hopeful, and trust in Allah’s plan.

As Allah says, “Give glad tidings to the patient ones… those who, when afflicted by a calamity, say: Indeed we belong to Allah, and to Him shall we truly return(Soorah al-Baqarah 2:155-156).
