The meaning of Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar is Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. There is no deity (no god) besides Allah and Allah is the greatest. Allah is the greatest and to Allah all praises belong.

The Eid takbeer is a powerful declaration of Allah’s greatness, oneness, and our gratitude towards Him.

As a Sunnah prescribed by Prophet Muhammad (SAW), it’s an act of worship that requires adherence to the authentic practices. No innovations are allowed, as the Sunnah provides sufficient guidance.

Takbir at-Tashreeq involves reciting the takbeer from the morning of the 9th of Dhul Hijjah (Arafah) to the afternoon of the 13th day, covering the days of tashriq.

Note that fasting is not permitted during Eid, and scholars differ on the obligation and wording of Takbir at-Tashreeq.

When to Read Takbeer Tashreeq?

Takbir Al Muqayyad, a special form of takbir, is recited at specific times:

After Fajr on Arafat day (9th of Dhul Hijjah)
During all five prayers on Arafat day, Eid day, and the 11th day
During Fajr, Dhuhr, and Asr prayers on the 13th day

This practice aligns with the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported in Sahih Muslim 1141.

The days of Tashriq (11th-13th) are days of eating, drinking, and gratitude. Recite takbir individually, loudly enough for others to hear and follow your example, as prescribed in Surah al-Baqarah:185.
