5 Dua For Blessings in Arabic and English

Dua For Blessings

A blessing means having a lot of good things that never end. When we make a dua for blessings, we are asking for many good things and good things that will last forever.

The Quran and the teachings of the Prophet (Sunnah) tell us that only Allah can give blessings. No one else can give blessings like Allah does. This means that Allah’s goodness is very great, never-ending and always true.

1. Dua For Blessings And Wealth

Here is a beautiful dua for increase and blessings in wealth & children and a long life:

اللَّهُمَّ أكْثِرْ مَالِي، وَوَلَدِي، وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أعْطَيْتَنِي [وَأطِلْ حَيَاتِي عَلَى طَاعَتِكَ، وَأحْسِنْ عَمَلِي وَاغْفِرْ لِي]

TransliterationAllahumma akthir mali wa waladi, wa barik-li fima a’taitani [wa atil hayati ’ala ta’atik, wa ahsin ’amali wagfirli].

Meaning: O Allah increase my wealth and offspring and bless me in what You have provided for me [and give me a long life in obedience to You and help me to do all that is good and forgive me]

Hadith Text

This dua is extracted from the Dua of the Prophet (ﷺ) for Anas:

Narrated Anas: The Prophet (ﷺ) paid a visit to Um-Sulaim and she placed before him dates and ghee. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Replace the ghee and dates in their respective containers for I am fasting.”

Then he stood somewhere in her house and offered an optional prayer and then he invoked good on Um-Sulaim and her family. Then Um-Sulaim said, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) ! I have a special request (today).”

He said, “What is it?” She replied, “(Please invoke for) your servant Anas.” So Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) did not leave anything good in the world or the Hereafter which he did not invoke (Allah to bestow) on me and said,

“O Allah! Give him (i.e. Anas) property and children and bless him.” Thus I am one of the richest among the Ansar and my daughter Umaina told me that when Al-Hajjaj came to Basra, more than 120 of my offspring had been buried.

[Sahih al-Bukhari, 1982, Sahih Muslim 660]

And in another narration by Muslim: Anas b. Malik said: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) passed (by our house) that my mother Umm Sulaim listened to his voice and said: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ), let my father and mother be sacrificed for you, here is Unais (and requested him to invoke blessings upon me).

So Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) invoked three blessings upon me. I have seen (the results) of the two in this very world (in regard to wealth and progeny) and I hope to see (the result) of the third one in the Hereafter.

[Sahih Muslim, 2481 c]

And in a narration by at-Tirmidhi: Narrated Abu Khaldah: “I said to Abu Al-‘Aliyah: ‘(Did) Anas heard from the Prophet (ﷺ)?’

He said: ‘He served him for ten years, and the Prophet (ﷺ) supplicated for him, and he used to have a garden that would bear fruit twice in the year, and there used to be sweet basil in it, from which could be found the smell of musk.’”

[at-Tirmidhi No. 3833, and it was authenticated by Shaykh Al-Albani in Sahih al-Tirmidhi, No. 3010, and in Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah, No. 2241]

Al-Albani’s Commentary on the Hadeeth

This hadeeth has many benefits, which I will briefly mention:

  • It’s okay to pray for more wealth and children, as it’s allowed in Islam. (Bukhari has a chapter on this)
  • Wealth and children can be a blessing if we obey Allah’s rules regarding them.

Al-Albani criticizes those who try to control the number of children they have, using methods like birth control or abortion, and seeking permission from scholars to make it acceptable.

He points out that Allah answered the Prophet’s prayer for Anas, making him one of the wealthiest and most prolific among the Ansar.
