O Allah, I take refuge with You lest I should stray or be led astray, or slip or be tripped, or oppress or be oppressed, or behave foolishly or be treated foolishly.’ slip: i.e. to commit a sin unintentionally.

Sheikh ibn Uthaimeen explained that this Hadith shows how important it is to remember Allah when leaving home. When we step out, we’re exposed to potential dangers like animal attacks or getting lost. So, we should say:
“I begin with Allah’s name, I trust in Allah…”
This means relying on Allah and trusting in Him. We should also ask Allah to protect us from:
- Getting lost or astray
- Being led astray by others
- Making mistakes or slipping up
- Doing wrong to others or being wronged by them
- Acting foolishly or being treated foolishly by others
Reciting this prayer when leaving home helps us turn to Allah and depend on Him. It’s a way to ask for His protection and guidance in our daily lives. May Allah guide us and grant us success.
