The full dua in Arabic is:
أَعوذُ بِاللهِ العَظِيـمِ، وَبِوَجْهِـهِ الكَرِيـمِ وَسُلْطـَانِه القَدِيـمِ، مِنَ الشَّيْـطَانِ الرَّجِـيمِ
Transliteration
A’udhu billaahil-‘Adheem, wa bi-Wajhihil-Kareem, wa Sultaanihil-qadeem, minash-Shaytaanir-rajeem.
Auzu Billahil Azeem Meaning in English
Auzu billahil Aziim means I seek refuge in Allah, the Supreme; And in His noble face; And in His eternal authority; From the accursed Satan!
Text of the Hadeeth
On the authority of ‘Amr Bin al-‘As (رضي الله عنه), from the Prophet (ﷺ) that whenever he entered the Masjid, he would say: “I seek refuge in Allah, the Supreme, and in His Noble Face, and in His Eternal Authority, from the accursed Satan.” So, when/if he said this, Satan would say: ‘He has been protected from me for the rest of the day.’
[Reported by Abu Dawood, no. 466. Shaykh al-Albāni declared it to be authentic in Saheeh at-Targheeb, no. 1606 and Mishkat al-Masābeeh, no. 749]
The Prophet’s (ﷺ) supplication, “A’oo-dhu bil-lāhi-l ‘Adheem”, highlights the importance of seeking refuge in Allah, the Supreme, from Satan, our eternal enemy.
This enemy seeks to mislead us, especially when we enter the mosque, to divert us from prayer or diminish our share of mercy.
By adding, “Wa bi-Waj-hi-hil-kareem” (And in His Noble Face), the Prophet (ﷺ) seeks refuge in Allah’s majestic essence, emphasizing the nobility and divinity of His Face.
This Face represents Allah’s eternal and unchanging characteristic, the ultimate goal and greatest achievement for believers.
The phrase, “Wa Sul-ta-ni-hil-qadeem” (And His Eternal Authority), underscores Allah’s absolute power and supremacy over creation, a quality that has always been attributed to Him.
By invoking Allah’s Noble Face and Eternal Authority, the Prophet (ﷺ) reminds us that true refuge can only be sought in the Most Generous, Most High, and All-Powerful Allah.
This ensures that our hopes will not be dashed and we will not be abandoned to the mercy of our enemy.
Finally, “Mi-nash-shay-ta-nir-ra-jeem” (from the accursed Satan) specifically seeks refuge from Satan, who lies in wait for humans at every turn, seeking to divert them from good and encourage evil.

The Prophet (ﷺ) teaches us to seek refuge in Allah, the Supreme, from our greatest enemy, Satan. Satan eagerly awaits us, especially when we enter the mosque, to divert us from prayer or diminish our share of mercy.
Allah’s Eternal Authority emphasizes His supremacy over creation and absolute power to do as He wills. By invoking His Noble Face and Eternal Authority, we recognize that true refuge can only be sought in the Most Generous, Most High, and All-Powerful Allah.
Finally, seeking refuge from the accursed Satan, who lies in wait for us at every turn, reminds us that only Allah can protect and preserve us from evil.
Satan seeks to mislead us on every path, including those of good and evil, but Allah’s refuge ensures our safety and guidance.
By reciting it, we:
