أَصْبَحْنَا عَلَى فِطْرَةِ الْإِسْلَامِ وَعَلَى كَلِمَةِ الْإِخْلَاصِ، وَعَلَى دِينِ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَى اللهُ عَلِيهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَعَلَى مِلَّةِ أَبِينَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَنِيفَاً مُسْلِماً وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ

Transliteration

Asbahna ‘ala fitrat il-islam wa ‘ala kalimat il-ikhlas wa ‘ala deeni nabiyyina Muhammadin salla Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallim wa ‘ala miilati abeena Ibrahima hanifan musliman wa maa kaana min almushrikin.

Asbahna ala fitratil Islam Meaning in English

Asbahnaa ala fitratil Islam means We have entered a new day upon the natural religion of Islam, upon the statement of sincerity, upon the religion of our Prophet Muhammad (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam), and upon the path of our father Ibrahim. He was upright (in worshipping Allah), and a Muslim. He was not of those who worship others besides Allah.

In the evening, we change the word أصبحنا to أمسينا, so we say أمسينا على فطرة الإسلام (Amsayna ala fitratil Islam)

This doesn’t change the meaning much, but it makes it more appropriate that we begin the supplication by mentioning our current period of the day, which is the evening.

The Prophet (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) recited this supplication morning and evening, acknowledging the blessing of being naturally inclined towards Islam, the religion in harmony with human nature.

By reminding ourselves of this daily, we reaffirm our commitment to the religion that aligns with our innate disposition, making it easier to accept and follow.

The statement of sincerity, “La ilaha illallah” (none is worthy of worship except Allah), is the first pillar of Islam and a declaration of purity, purifying our beliefs from associating partners with Allah and dedicating our worship solely to Him.
