اللهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ, فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَمْلِكُهَا إِلَّا أَنْتَ

Transliteration

Allahumma inni As’aluka Min Fadlika wa Rahmatika fa Innahu la Yamlikuha illa Anta.

Allahumma inni as aluka min fadhlika wa rahmatika means O Allaah indeed I ask of You for Your Virtue (Bounty) and Your Mercy, for indeed, no one possesses these except You.

The Prophet, peace be upon him, asked about Allah’s favor as commanded by Him: “And ask Allah of His bounty” (Surah An Nisaa 32), meaning ask Allah for an increase in His kindness and grace in matters of this world and the Hereafter, as Allah, the Most High, said:

“Indeed, [all] bounty is in the hand of Allāh – He grants it to whom He wills. And Allāh is all-Encompassing and Wise.” (Surah Al Imran verse 73).

The favor is in His hands, and He manages it as He wills, giving it to whom He chooses with complete wisdom and power. It is only He who should be asked.

His saying: “O Allah, I ask You for Your favor and mercy“: Meaning, I ask You, O Allah, for an increase in Your goodness, your gifts, and your blessings, which I cannot do without.

And I ask for Your mercy, which encompasses everything, to shower upon me from Your mercies and for Your constant compassion; for, my Lord, I am in constant need of Your virtues and mercies.

His saying: “For none possesses it except You“: Meaning, no one possesses favor and mercy except You.

You are the one who determines and sends them, so they are sought only from You. For, He is the Owner of everything, and everything belongs to Him, and He has decreed everything. Therefore, one should seek from Him alone.

Thus, anyone who supplicates to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, with good intentions, certainty, and sincerity in turning to Him, Allah grants them what they ask for, whether in this life or the Hereafter, according to His wisdom, as Allah has clarified about prophet Musa, peace be upon him, when he said:

“My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need.” (Surah Qasas verse 24).

The response was: “Then one of the two women came to him walking with shyness. She said, “Indeed, my father invites you that he may reward you for having watered for us.” (Surah Qasas verse 25).

Allah provided for him in this life and the Hereafter.

Furthermore this Dua can even be said when hearing a rooster crow and DONKEY bray or a dog bark.

Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه said that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “If you hear the crow of a rooster, ask Allah for his bounty for it has seen an angel. If you hear a donkey’s bray, seek refuge in Allah from the devil, for it saw a devil.” [Al-Bukhari No 3303; Muslim No 2729; Abu Dawud No 5102; At-Tirmidhi No 3459]
