How Many Takbeer In Eid Prayer? Things To Know

Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are significant celebrations in the Muslim calendar, commemorated with special prayers called Eid prayers. A distinctive aspect of Eid prayers is the recitation of Takbeer, a collection of phrases honoring and glorifying Allah.
This article will delve into the details of Takbeer recitation in Eid prayers and provide guidance on performing the Eid salah.
How Many Takbeer In Eid Prayer?
In Eid prayers, there are 12 Takbeer in total. According to the correct view, the first Rakah has 7 Takbeers, while the second Rakah has 5. The Imam begins with Takbirat al-ihram, followed by 6 or 7 additional Takbeers in the first Rakah.
This is based on the hadith reported by Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Takbirs in both Eidul-Fitr and Eidul-Adha are 7 in the first Rakah and 5 in the second Rakah” (reported by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi).
Then, the Imam recites Surah al-Fatihah, followed by Surat Qaf in the first Rakah. In the second Rakah, he stands up saying Takbir, and after fully standing, says 5 more Takbeers, followed by Surat al-Fatihah and Surat al-Qamar.
What To Recite in Eid Prayer?
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would recite Surah Qaf and Surah al-Qamar during Eid prayers. Alternatively, he would sometimes recite Surat al-A’la in the first rak’ah and Surat al-Ghashiyah in the second.
This is based on the narration that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would recite al-A’la and al-Ghashiyah in the Eid prayer.
To revive this Sunnah, the imam should recite these surahs, allowing the Muslim congregation to become familiar with the tradition, as recommended by Islamqa.
