Innallaha Ma Sabireen in Arabic Text
Here is the verse in Arabic:
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ
Innallaha Ma Sabireen Meaning in English
Innallaha Ma Sabireen means Indeed, Allah is with the patient.
Innallaha Ma Sabireen Verses in Quran
Patience, known as Sabr, is frequently mentioned in both the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), showing its virtues and profound significance.
Innallaha Ma asSabireen is mentioned in Surah Baqarah, verse 153, the full verse is:
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱسۡتَعِينُواْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ
Translation: O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient. Surah Al Baqara 153
Another ayat is surah Anfal, verse 46:
وَأَطِيعُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَلَا تَنَٰزَعُواْ فَتَفۡشَلُواْ وَتَذۡهَبَ رِيحُكُمۡۖ وَٱصۡبِرُوٓاْۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ
Translation: And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength would depart; and be patient. Indeed, Allah is with the patient. Surah Anfal 46
What Is Sabr in Islam?
In Islam, Sabr (patience) is a vital virtue that encompasses restraint and self-control. Scholars have identified three aspects of patience:
- Patience in obeying Allah’s commands, even when challenging for our minds and bodies. This includes persevering through difficulties like fatigue, financial struggles, or spiritual hardships.
- Patience in avoiding what Allah prohibits, such as resisting temptations to lie, cheat, or engage in harmful behaviors. This demands strength and self-control to resist our desires and stay on the right path.
- Patience in facing Allah’s preordainments, which may bring comfort or discomfort. When faced with trials, one should remain patient and grateful, recognizing that they are opportunities for growth and spiritual development.
The Quran emphasizes the importance of patience in Surah Aal-Imraan, verse 200, encouraging believers to endure and be patient.
During trials, individuals experience four states: scorn, patience, pleasure, or gratitude. Cultivating patience helps us navigate life’s challenges with faith, resilience, and trust in Allah’s plan.

Virtues Of Patience (Sabr)
Allah has made patience like a horse that never gets tired, an army that can never be defeated and a strong fortress that can never be breached.
Patience and victory are twin brothers, for victory comes with patience, relief comes with distress and ease comes with hardship.
Quranic Verses On The Virtues Of Patience
In the Quran, Allaah has guaranteed those who are patient that He will give them reward without measure.
He tells them that He is with them by guiding and supporting them and granting them a clear victory. Allah says:
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ
“Surely, Allah is with those who are As-Sabirun (the patient).”
[Surah al-Anfal 8:46]
Allah tells us if we are patient and pious, the plot of the enemy cannot do any harm, even if he is powerful, as He says:
وَإِن تَصۡبِرُواْ وَتَتَّقُواْ لَا يَضُرُّكُمۡ كَيۡدُهُمۡ شَيۡئًاۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِمَا يَعۡمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ
“But if you remain patient and become Al-Muttaqun (the pious), not the least harm will their cunning do to you. Surely, Allah surrounds all that they do.”
[Surah Al ‘Imran 3:120]
Allah tells us that the patience and piety of his Prophet Yusuf brought him to a position of power and strength, as He says:
إِنَّهُۥ مَن يَتَّقِ وَيَصۡبِرۡ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجۡرَ ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ
“Verily, he who fears Allah with obedience to Him (by abstaining from sins and evil deeds, and by performing righteous good deeds), and is patient, then surely, Allah makes not the reward of the Muhsinun (good-doers) to be lost.”
[Surah Yusuf verse 90]
Allah has connected success to patience and piety, and the believers understand that. Allah says:
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱصۡبِرُواْ وَصَابِرُواْ وَرَابِطُواْ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُفۡلِحُونَ
“O you who believe! Endure and be more patient (than your enemy), and guard your territory by stationing army units permanently at the places from where the enemy can attack you, and fear Allah, so that you may be successful.”
[Surah Al ‘Imran 3:200]
Allah tells us that He loves those who are patient, and that is the greatest encouragement. Allah says:
وَٱللَّهُ يُحِبُّ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ
“And Allah loves As-Saabirun (the patient).”
[Surah Al ‘Imran 3:146]
Allah has given glad tidings of three things to those who are patient, each of which is better than that for which the people of this world envy one another. Allah says:
وَبَشِّرِ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ * ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَٰبَتۡهُم مُّصِيبَةٌ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّآ إِلَيۡهِ رَٰجِعُونَ * أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ صَلَوَٰتٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِمۡ وَرَحۡمَةٌۖ وَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُهۡتَدُونَ
“but give glad tidings to As- Sabirun (the patient) *. Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: ‘Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.’ * They are those on whom are the Salawat (i.e. who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord, and (they are those who) receive His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided ones.”
[Surah al-Baqarah 2:155-157]
Allah states that the victory of attaining Paradise and being saved from Hell will be won only by those who are patient, as He says:
إِنِّى جَزَيۡتُهُمُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ بِمَا صَبَرُوٓاْ أَنَّهُمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡفَآئِزُونَ
“Verily, I have rewarded them this Day for their patience; they are indeed the ones that are successful.”
[Surah al-Mu’minun 23:111]
Allah tells us that patience and forgiveness are among the things recommended by Allah and those who pay heed to this will never lose, as He says:
وَلَمَن صَبَرَ وَغَفَرَ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَمِنۡ عَزۡمِ ٱلۡأُمُورِ
“And verily, whosoever shows patience and forgives, that would truly be from the things recommended by Allah.”
[Surah al-Shura 42:43]
Allah commanded His Messenger to wait patiently for His Decision, and told him that his patience is not but from Him, and by virtue of patience all calamities become easy, as He said:
وَٱصۡبِرۡ لِحُكۡمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعۡيُنِنَاۖ
“So wait patiently (O Muhammad) for the Decision of your Lord, for verily, you are under Our Eyes.”
[Surah al-Tur 52:48]
Hadiths On The Virtues Of Patience
With regard to the ahadeeth which speak of the virtue of patience, they include the following:
Al-Bukhari (1496) and Muslim (1053) narrated that Abu Sa’id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“…whoever is patient Allah will bestow patience upon him, and no one is ever given anything better and more generous than patience.”
Muslim (918) narrated that Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah say:
“There is no Muslim who is stricken with a calamity and says what Allah has enjoined – ‘Verily to Allah we belong and unto Him is our return. O Allah, reward me for my affliction and compensate me with something better’ – but Allah will compensate him with something better.”
Muslim (2999) narrated that Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
“How wonderful is the affair of the believer, for his affairs are all good, and this applies to no one but the believer. If something good happens to him, he is thankful for it and that is good for him. If something bad happens to him, he bears it with patience and that is good for him.”
