Dua For Taqwa in Arabic

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say:

اللَّهُمَّ آتِ نَفْسِي تَقْوَاهَا وَزَكِّهَا أَنْتَ خَيْرُ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا أَنْتَ وَلِيُّهَا وَمَوْلاَهَا اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ لاَ يَنْفَعُ وَمِنْ قَلْبٍ لاَ يَخْشَعُ وَمِنْ نَفْسٍ لاَ تَشْبَعُ وَمِنْ دَعْوَةٍ لاَ يُسْتَجَابُ لَهَا

TransliterationAllahumma ati nafsi taqwaha, wa zakkiha anta khairu man zakkaha, Anta waliyyuha wa maulaha. Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min ‘ilmin la yanfau’, wa min qalbin la yakhsha’u, wa min nafsin la tashba’u, wa min da’watin la yustajabu laha.

Meaning in English: O Allah! Grant my soul its Taqwa (piety), and purify it. You are the best of those who purify it. You are its Supporter and its Guardian. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowledge which does not benefit, from a heart which does not fear (You), from a soul which is never satisfied, and from a supplication which is not answered.

This dua is found in Sahih Muslim 2722. It is dua for taqwa and seeking refuge from knowledge that does not benefit, a heart that does not fear Allah, a soul which is never satisfied and a supplication which is not answered.

2. Dua

اللَّهُمَّ اقْسِمْ لَنَا مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ مَا تَحُولُ بِهِ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ مَعَاصِيكَ، وَمِنْ طَاعَتِكَ مَا تُبَلِّغُنَا بِهِ جَنَّتَكَ، وَمِنَ الْيَقِينِ مَا تُهَوِّنُ بِهِ عَلَيْنَا مَصَائِبَ الدُّنْيَا، اللَّهُمَّ مَتِّعْنَا بِأَسْمَاعِنَا، وَأَبْصَارِنَا، وَقُوَّاتِنَا مَا أَحْيَيْتَنَا، وَاجْعَلْهُ الْوَارِثَ مِنَّا، وَاجْعَلْ ثَأْرَنَا عَلَى مَنْ ظَلَمَنَا، وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى مَنْ عَادَانَا، وَلَا تَجْعَلْ مُصِيبَتَنَا فِي دِينِنَا، وَلَا تَجْعَلِ الدُّنْيَا أَكْبَرَ هَمِّنَا، وَلَا مَبْلَغَ عِلْمِنَا، وَلَا تُسَلِّطْ عَلَيْنَا مَنْ لَا يَرْحَمُنَا

TransliterationAllahumma-qsim lana min khashyatika ma tahulu bihi bainana wa baina ma’asika, wa min ta’atika ma tuballighuna bihi jannataka, wa minal-yaqini ma tuhawwinu bihi ‘alaina masa-‘ibad-dunya. Allahumma matti’na biasma’ina, wa absarina, wa quwwatina ma ahyaitana, waj’alhul-waritha minna, waj’al tharana ‘ala man dhalamana, wansurna ‘ala man ‘adana, wa la taj’al musibatana fee dinina, wa la taj’alid-dunya akbara hammina, wa la mablagha ‘ilmina, wa la tusallit ‘alaina man-la yarhamuna.

Meaning: O Allah, apportion to us such fear as should serve as a barrier between us and acts of disobedience; and such obedience as will take us to Your Jannah; and such as will make easy for us to bear in the calamities of this world. O Allah! let us enjoy our hearing, our sight and our power as long as You keep us alive and make it continuous until the end of our lives, and make our revenge restricted to those who oppress us, and support us against those who are hostile to us and let no misfortune afflict our Deen; and let not worldly affairs be our principal concern, or the ultimate limit of our knowledge, and let not those rule over us who do not show mercy to us.

Dua Taqwa

From Ibn Umar (رضي الله عنه) who said it was very rare that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would stand up from a gathering until he had made Dua with these statements for his Companions. [At-Tirmidhi in Kitab ad-Dawaat 3502]

It is a dua for taqwa, healthy senses, support against enemies, protection from oppressive rulers.

Importance Of Taqwa

Allah, has commanded us to fear Him (Taqwa) , and He has told us that Taqwa is the key to success and prosperity in this world and the hereafter, as He, may He be Glorified and Exalted, says:

O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him] [Surah Al `Imran verse 102]

And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger and fears Allah and is conscious of Him – it is those who are the attainers. [Surah An-Nur verse 52]

And He tells us that He, is with those who fear Him:

Indeed, Allah is with those who fear Him and those who are doers of good. [Surah An-Nahl verse 128

but Allah is the protector of the righteous. [Surah Al-Jathiyah verse 19]

He also tells us that the [best] outcome is for the righteous (those who fear Allah), as He says:

And the [best] outcome is for the righteous. [Surah Al-A`raf 7:128]

They are those who will attain salvation and success in this world and the hereafter, as He says:

And We saved those who believed and used to fear Allah. [Surah Fussilat verse 18]

Then We will save those who feared Allah [Surah Maryam verse 72]

Indeed, for the righteous is attainment.} [Surah An-Naba’ verse 31.

The righteous among the believers are the allies or close friends of Allah:

Unquestionably, [for] the allies of Allah there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve, Those who believed and were fearing Allah. [Surah Yunus verse 62-63]

And there are many similar verses.
