اللّهُمَّ إِنِّي عَبْدُكَ ابْنُ عَبْدِكَ ابْنُ أَمَتِكَ نَاصِيَتِي بِيَدِكَ، مَاضٍ فِيَّ حُكْمُكَ، عَدْلٌ فِيَّ قَضَاؤكَ أَسْأَلُكَ بِكُلِّ اسْمٍ هُوَ لَكَ سَمَّيْتَ بِهِ نَفْسَكَ أِوْ أَنْزَلْتَهُ فِي كِتَابِكَ، أَوْ عَلَّمْتَهُ أَحَداً مِنْ خَلْقِكَ أَوِ اسْتَأْثَرْتَ بِهِ فِي عِلْمِ الغَيْبِ عِنْدَكَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ القُرْآنَ رَبِيعَ قَلْبِي، وَنورَ صَدْرِي وجَلَاءَ حُزْنِي وذَهَابَ هَمِّي

Transliteration

Allahumma inni ‘abduka wa ibn ‘abdika wa ibn amatika, nasiyati bi yadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, ‘adlun fiyya qadauka, as aluka bi kulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka aw anzaltahu fi kitabika aw ‘allamtahu ahadan min khalqika aw ista’tharta bihi fi ‘ilm il-ghaybi ‘indak an taj’ala al-Qurana rabi’a qalbi wa nura sadri wa jala a huzni wa dhahaba hammi.

Meaning In English

O Allah, I am Your slave, son of Your slave, son of Your female slave, my forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is forever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every Name belonging to You which You named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or You taught to any of Your creation, or You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Quran the life of my heart and the light of my breast, and a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxiety.

Abd-Allah ibn Mas’ud narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “No person suffers any anxiety or grief, and says this dua – but Allah will take away his sorrow and grief, and give him in their stead joy. It was said: O Messenger of Allah, should we not learn them (these words)? He said: Yes indeed; whoever hears them should learn them.” Narrated by Ahmad (3528)

2. Dua

Narrated by Abu Dawud (5090) and Ahmad (27898) from Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The Du`a of the person who is in distress is:

اللَّهُمَّ رَحْمَتَكَ أَرْجُو فَلَا تَكِلْنِي إِلَى نَفْسِي طَرْفَةَ عَيْنٍ وَأَصْلِحْ لِي شَأْنِي كُلَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَا أَنْتَ

Transliteration

Allaahumma rahmataka arjoo fa laa takilni ilaa nafsi tarfat ‘ayn wa aslih li sha’ni kullahu laa ilaaha illa anta.

Meaning

O Allah, for Your mercy I hope, so do not leave me in charge of my affairs even for the blink of an eye; rectify all my affairs. There is no god except You.

3. Dua

Narrated by Muslim (2730) from Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) used to say, when he felt distressed:

لَا إلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْعَظـيمُ الْحَلِـيمْ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ رَبُّ العَـرْشِ العَظِيـمِ، لَا إِلَـهَ إِلَّا اللَّهْ رَبُّ السَّمَـوّاتِ ورّبُّ الأَرْضِ ورَبُّ العَرْشِ الكَـريم

Transliteration

La ilaha illal-lahul-‘atheemul-haleem, la ilaha illal-lahu rabbul-‘arshil-‘atheem, la ilaha illal-lahu rabbus-samawati wa rabbul-ardi wa rabbul-‘arshil-kareem.

لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنتَ سُبْحَٰنَكَ إِنِّى كُنتُ مِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

Transliteration

La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz zalimin.

None has the right to be worshipped except You; Glory be unto You. Indeed I have been from the wrongdoers.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say, when something upset him:

يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّوْمُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيْث

TransliterationYa Hayyu ya Qayyum, bi Rahmatika astaghith.

Meaning in English: O Ever-Living One, O Everlasting One, by Your mercy I seek help.

6. Dua

Asma bint ‘Umays (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me: “Shall I not teach you some words to say when you feel distressed?

اللهُ اللهُ رَبِّ لا أُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئاً

TransliterationAllah, Allah, Rabbi la ushriku bihi shay-an.

Meaning: Allah, Allah, my Lord, I do not associate anything with Him.

7. Dua

اللّهُمَّ لا سَهْلَ إِلاّ ما جَعَلتَهُ سَهلاً، وَأَنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الْحَزَنَ إِذا شِئْتَ سَهـْلاً

Transliteration

Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja ‘altahu sahla, wa anta taj ‘alul hazna ith-a shi’ ta’ sahlan.

Meaning

O Allah, there is no ease except in that which You have made easy, and You make the difficulty, if You wish, easy.
