The Power of Dua

Dua, or supplication, is a powerful act of worship in Islam where you humbly ask Allah for His blessings, guidance, and help. You can use dua to ask Allah for a righteous spouse, or for guidance in choosing the right partner.

According to Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a renowned Islamic scholar, Allah knows what’s best for us, and we should trust in His wisdom. We should use our resources and efforts to achieve our goals, but also pray to Allah for guidance and blessings.

Remember:

  • Have full trust in Allah’s plan
  • Ask Allah to grant you a righteous spouse and make good things easy for you
  • Use your own words to make dua, as there’s no specific formula
  • Pray for both worldly and spiritual blessings
  • Keep praying, even if your efforts don’t immediately succeed, and accept Allah’s will

By combining effort and prayer, you can find peace and guidance in your search for a life partner.

The Best Times to Make Dua

While you can make dua at any time, some moments are considered especially blessed and opportune for supplication. These include:

  • The last third of the night: Allah descends to the lowest heaven, asking if anyone seeks forgiveness, help, or guidance.
  • Between the Adhan and Iqama: Dua is accepted during this time, as confirmed by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
  • Day of Arafat: Millions gather during Hajj to make dua and seek Allah’s forgiveness and blessings.

Other optimal times for dua include:

  • Laylat al-Qadar (Night of Power)
  • Deep into the night
  • After prescribed prayers
  • When rain falls
  • Specific times on Friday
  • When drinking Zamzam water
  • During prostration
  • When hearing a rooster’s crow

Tips for Making Effective Dua:

Qualities To Look For In A Husband

There is nothing which it is more important for both parties to focus on than religious commitment and attitude.

With regard to the husband, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) advised the guardians (walis) of women:

“If there comes to you one whose attitude and commitment to religion pleases you, then marry him (to your female relative), for if you do not do that, there will be much trouble and corruption in the land.”Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1084; Ibn Majah, 1967

Qualities To Look For In A Wife

With regard to the wife, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave the following advice:

“Women are married for four things : wealth, lineage, beauty and religious commitment. Marry the one who is religious, may your hands be rubbed with dust! (i.e., may you prosper).”Narrated by al-Bukhari; Muslim, 1466

Al-Hafiz ibn Hajar said: “The meaning is that what is appropriate for the man who is religious and chivalrous is that religion must be the ultimate focus in all things, and especially with regard to the choice of a lifelong companion.

So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded him to seek a religious woman , since religion is his ultimate goal.” Fath al-Bari, 9/135
