Dua After Azan in Arabic
It is recommended to say this prayer right after answering the Azan;
Transliteration: Wa ‘anaa ‘ash-hadu ‘an laa ‘ilaaha ‘illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu wa ‘anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa Rasooluhu, radhitu billaahi Rabban, wa bi-Muhammadin Rasoolan wa bil’islaami deenan.
Meaning In English: And I also bear witness that there is no deity has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, Who has no partner, and that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Muhammad (peace be upon him) as my Messenger and with Islam as my religion.

Hadith Text
Sa’d b. Abu Waqqas reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: If anyone says on hearing the Mu’adhdhin: I testify that there is no god but Allah alone.
Who has no partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger, (and that) I am satisfied with Allah as my Lord, with Muhammad as Messenger. and with Islam as din (code of life), his sins would be forgiven. In the narration transmitted by Ibn Rumh the words are:” He who said on hearing the Mu’adhdhin and verity I testify.” ‘ Qutaiba has not mentioned his words:” And I.”
Sahih Muslim 386
According to Sheikh Ibn Uthaimeen: When we ask Allah to bless the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and grant him Al- Wasilah (a high rank in paradise), we become eligible for his intercession.
The Muslim community asks for this blessing after every call to prayer (Adhan). The prayers said between the Adhan and Iqaamah (the call to stand for prayer) are never rejected.
If you’re reciting the Quran, pause to respond to the Mu’adhdhin (the one calling to prayer) and continue reciting after the Adhan is finished.
If you’re in the bathroom when the Adhan is called, don’t respond until you’ve finished and come out. Then, take a moment to respond to the Mu’adhdhin.
What To Say While Hearing Adhan
Abdullah b. Amr b. al-As reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When you hear the Mu’adhdhin, repeat what he says, then invoke a blessing on me, for everyone who invokes a blessing on me will receive ten blessings from Allah;
then beg from Allah al-Wasila for me, which is a rank in Paradise fitting for only one of Allah’s servants, and I hope that I may be that one. If anyone who asks that I be given the Wasila, he will be assured of my intercession.
Sahih Muslim 384
The Sunnah of Adhan
- To repeat the phrases uttered during the azan.
- To say at its conclusion: I am content and pleased that Allah is my Lord, Islam is my religion, and Muhammad is the Messenger.
- To ask Allah to grant Prophet Muhammad SAW the right of intercession and ascendancy and to grant him (on the day of judgement) the best and the highest place in paradise which Allah promised him.
- Then to send Salah upon him. And finally to ask Allah for your needs.
The prescribed five acts mentioned above should never be overlooked.
Benefits
Supplication between the Adhan and the Iqamah is never rejected. As for the last hadeeth in this post, it encourages supplication between the Adhan and the Iqaamah; acceptance of such supplication is swift. Therefore, it is important for you to seize this opportunity to supplicate to Allah that He may respond to you.
