Astaghfirullah al Azeem in Arabic Text
Astaghfirullah Hal Adzim is written in Arabic as:
أسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ العَظِيمَ الَّذِي لاَ إلَهَ إلاَّ هُوَ، الحَيُّ القَيُّومُ، وَأتُوبُ إلَيهِ
Transliteration
Astaghfirullaahal-‘Adheemal-lathee laa ‘ilaaha ‘illaa Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyoomu wa ‘atoobu ‘ilayhi.
Astaghfirullah al Azeem Meaning in English
Astaghfirullahal Azeem means I seek the forgiveness of Allah the Mighty, Whom there is none worthy of worship except Him, the Living, the Eternal, and I repent to Him.

It was narrated from Abu Yasaar that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Whoever says Astaghfir Allaah al-‘Azeem alladhi laa ilaaha illa huwa al-Hayyu al-Qayyoom wa atoobu ilayhi (I ask forgiveness of Allaah the Almighty, besides Whom there is no god, the Ever-Living, the Eternal, and I repent to Him), will be forgiven even if his sin is fleeing from the battlefield [a major sin].”
Narration of Abu Dawood is without Adheem (The Mighty), so both wordings can be said. [And the stress on repeating it three times, it is weak as mentioned by Shaykh al-Albaani in his series of weak narrations.]

Seeking Forgiveness: The Key to Redemption
According to Sheikh ibn Uthaimeen, no one is perfect, but the solution lies in seeking forgiveness.

Astaghfirullah al Azeem Al-lazi La Ilaha Benefits
When we turn to Allah in repentance, we receive two transformative benefits:
- Obedience to Allah’s command, leading to success in this life and the Hereafter.
- Following the Prophet’s (SAW) example of seeking forgiveness over 100 times daily.
True repentance requires sincerity and a commitment to change. Simply uttering the words without intention or action will not bring benefit.

The Secret of Success
Allah (ﷻ) says in the Quran:
And [saying], “Seek Forgiveness of your Lord and repent to Him, [and] He Will Let you enjoy a good provision. [Quran 11: 3]
Ask Forgiveness of your Lord and then repent to Him. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in showers and Increase you in strength [added] to your strength. [Quran 11: 52]
But Allah would not punish them while you, [O Muhammad], are among them, and Allah would not punish them while they seek forgiveness. [Quran 8: 33]
And Whoever Seeks Allah’s Forgiveness Then He Will Find Him Ever Oft-Forgiving
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Indeed Shaytan said ‘By Your Honor O Lord, I will continue to mislead Your slaves as long as their souls are in their bodies’, so the Lord تبارك وتعالى said: ‘By My Honor and Majesty, I Will Continue To Forgive them As Long As they seek My Forgiveness’.”

Knowing that Allah is the One Who forgives
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: that Allah Azza wa Jal said: ‘Whoever knows that I have the capability to forgive sins, then I will forgive him and not care, as long as he did not associate anything with Me.’ Collected by Tabrani and Albaani declared it to be Hasan in Saheeh al-Jamia no. 4330

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “If you were to not commit sins, Allah would have brought into existence a creation that would commit sins and (Allah) would forgive them.” [Sahih Muslim 2748]

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Tuba (a tree in paradise) [or Glad tidings] for the one who finds much (seeking of) forgiveness in his record (book of deeds).” [Sunan Ibn Majah 3818, authenticated by al-Albani]
