Allahumma Zidna Wala Tanqusna Wa Akrimna in Arabic & Meaning

“Allahumma zidna wala tanqusna wa akrimna” is a supplication asking for an increase in blessings, knowledge, goodness, honor, piety, success, and contentment.
This dua is a beautiful way to ask Allah for His abundance and blessings in all areas of our lives. It’s a reminder that everything we have comes from Allah, and we should always seek His help and guidance to increase our blessings and make the most of them.

The dua is written in Arabic as:
اللَّهُمَّ زِدْنَا وَلاَ تَنْقُصْنَا وَأَكْرِمْنَا وَلاَ تُهِنَّا وَأَعْطِنَا وَلاَ تَحْرِمْنَا وَآثِرْنَا وَلاَ تُؤْثِرْ عَلَيْنَا وَأَرْضِنَا وَارْضَ عَنَّا
Transliteration
Allahumma zidna wala tanqusnaa, wa akrimnaa wala tuhinnaa, wa’atinaa wala tahrimnaa, wa aathirnaa wala tu’thir ’alaynaa, wa ardinaa warda ’anna.
Allahumma Zidna Wala Tanqusna Wa Akrimna Meaning in English
Allahumma zidna wala tanqusna means O Allah! Increase us [in Your Blessings and rewards] and do not decrease us, honour us and do not humiliate us, give us [from Your Gifts] and do not deprive us, be in favour of us and not against us, and make us satisfied and be satisfied with us.

Hadith Text
Narrated ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه): “When revelation came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), one could hear what sounded like the drone of bees before his face. One day revelation was coming to him, he faced the Qiblah, raised his hands and said:
O Allah! Increase us [in Your Blessings and rewards] and do not decrease us, honour us and do not humiliate us, give us [from Your Gifts] and do not deprive us, be in favour of us and not against us, and make us satisfied and be satisfied with us.
He (ﷺ) said: ‘Ten Ayah were revealed to me, whoever abides by them shall enter Paradise (and they are): ‘Successful indeed are the believers…’ until the completion of ten Ayat (23:1-10).”

Note: There is no harm in saying this Dua however the Hadith cannot be attributed to the Prophet (ﷺ) due to its weakness.
When we say this dua, we’re asking Allah to grant us more blessings in every aspect of our lives.
We seek an increase in knowledge to help us understand the world better and make wise decisions. We ask for more goodness, such as kindness, generosity, and righteousness, to fill our hearts and actions.
Additionally, we pray for honor and dignity, both in this life and in the hereafter. We seek success in our endeavors, whether it’s in our studies, careers, relationships, or spiritual journey.
And finally, we ask for contentment and peace of mind, knowing that true happiness comes from being grateful for what we have.
When we say “O Allah, increase us,” we’re asking for more goodness, favor, and knowledge from Allah’s abundant blessings. It’s a way of seeking growth and improvement in every aspect of our lives, both worldly and spiritually.
When we ask for increase, it’s a sign of our trust in Allah’s generosity and willingness to grant our requests. We’re expressing our desire to receive more of His blessings and guidance.
The plea for increase can apply to our worldly needs and our spiritual journey towards the Hereafter. And when we express concern about decrease, it shows our fear of losing the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon us.
Saying “And honor us” means asking for Allah’s blessings and favors to be showered upon us, fulfilling our needs and elevating our status in both this world and the Hereafter.
One of the greatest honors we can receive is God-consciousness (taqwa), and Allah honors us in the afterlife by raising our ranks in paradise.
When we say “And do not deprive us,” we’re asking Allah not to let us fall into humiliation or oppression because of our sins or shortcomings.
We’re seeking His protection and mercy against any harm or hardship that may come our way.
Overall, this supplication encompasses asking Allah for every form of goodness, both in this world and in the Hereafter.
It’s a comprehensive prayer that reflects our reliance on Allah’s mercy and our desire to live a life pleasing to Him.
His saying “and make us satisfied and be satisfied with us” means we’re asking Allah to choose us with His care and mercy.
We seek His protection from being surpassed by others, whether in honor or humiliation. It’s a plea to be among those who prevail over their enemies, not among the defeated.
When we say “And accept our actions, and be pleased with us,” it means we’re asking Allah to make us content with His decrees and provisions.
We seek patience, contentment, and satisfaction with everything that comes from Him, until we attain His pleasure.
This request for Allah’s pleasure is the greatest desire a servant can have in this world and the Hereafter.
Achieving the status of being pleased (al-Ridha) by Allah is the highest level of acceptance one can attain, second only to prophethood.
When Allah is pleased with us, it signifies that we have reached the pinnacle of success and fulfillment.
