Allahumma Rabbanas Azhibil Ba’sa Meaning & in Arabic Text
The Quran and Sunnah offer several potent du’as (supplications) for healing, health, and wellness, seeking Allah’s aid against various afflictions. One such du’a, narrated by esteemed scholars Imam Bukhari and Muslim, begins with the words ‘Allahumma Rabbanas Azhibil’.
According to Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her), the Prophet (SAW) would recite this du’a when visiting ailing family members, gently touching the sick person with his right hand as he supplicated. This du’a serves as a powerful means of seeking Allah’s mercy and healing.

Allahumma Rabbanas is written in Arabic as:
اللَّهُمَّ ربَّ النَّاسِ، أَذْهِب الْبَأسَ، واشْفِ، أَنْتَ الشَّافي لا شِفَاءَ إِلاَّ شِفَاؤُكَ، شِفاءً لا يُغَادِرُ سقَماً
Transliteration
The dua is transliterated as Allaahumma Rabban-naas, adhhibil-ba’s, washfi antash-Shaafi laa shifaa’a illaa shifaa’uka shifaa’an laa yughaadiru saqaman.
Allahumma Rabbanas Azhibil Ba sa Meaning In English
Allahumma Rabban naas means O Allah, Lord of mankind, do away with my suffering. Heal (me) as You are the only Healer and there is no cure except that of Yours, it is that which leaves no ailment behind.

It is narrated that A’isha (peace and blessings be upon her) said that when anyone among them had an illness, the Prophet (ﷺ) used to rub the area of the pain and recite the following du’a:
أَذْهِبِ الْبَأْسَ رَبَّ النَّاسِ وَاشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ شِفَاءٌ لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمَاً
Transliteration: Adhibil ba’sa Rabb an-naas washfi antash-shaafii la shifa’aa illa shifa-uka shifa-an la yughadiru saqaman.
Meaning in English: O Allah take away the hardship, O Lord of mankind, give shifa, You are the One who cures, there is no cure except Your shifa, a cure that will not leave any sickness.

Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to treat some of his wives by passing his right hand over the place of ailment and used to say, “O Allah, the Lord of the people! When seeking healing, the Prophet (SAW) would asked Allah, the Lord of Mankind, the Honored and Glorious, saying: ‘O Allah, You created me in good health, and then decreed that I fall sick. And surely, You are able to heal me.’
This is because Allah is the Lord of mankind, the Mighty and Sublime, the Creator, the King, and the Director of all affairs.
The supplication continues: ‘Remove this disease and cure him,’ meaning to eliminate the illness and restore the person to good health.
The word ‘ishfi’ (cure) is used instead of ‘ashfi’ (destroy), which highlights the importance of seeking healing and recovery, not destruction.
Allah is the Great Curer, and any means used, such as medication or invocations, are only secondary to His power.
The Prophet (SAW) encouraged seeking cure, but not through unlawful means. He also reminded us that Allah has sent down a cure for every disease, and the cure is only through Him.
When visiting the sick, one should touch their body with their right hand and recite this supplication, seeking a perfect healing that leaves no trace of illness. May Allah, the Honored and Glorious, grant us healing and recovery.
