Sheikh Ibn Uthaimeen, in his explanation of Riyadus Saliheen, talked about a beautiful supplication we make in our prayers. When we say “Allahumma Rabba hadhihid-da’wati-tammah (O Allah, Lord of this perfect call),” we’re asking Allah to guide us towards praying and achieving success. This prayer is super special because it’s the most complete way to call upon Allah.
Then, we say “Was-Salati-qa’imah (and established prayer),” which means we’re asking for our prayers to be established. This is like saying, “it’s time to pray!” It’s a reminder that prayer time has started.
Next, we say “Aati Muhammadanil-wasilata wal-fadilah (Grant Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) the intercession).” This part is about asking Allah to give Prophet Muhammad the highest level of paradise, called Al-Wasilah. This level is reserved just for him because of his special status.
We also ask for “Wal-Fadilah (and favour),” which means we’re praying for him to have a distinguished and honored position, even above all others. And guess what? That’s exactly what happened to him because of his greatness and goodness.
Lastly, when we say “Wab’athuhu maqaman mahmudanilladhi wa’adtahu (and raise him to the honoured station You have promised him),” we’re reminding ourselves that Allah has promised Prophet Muhammad a praised and honored position. It’s a way of acknowledging and appreciating the special status and role of the Prophet in Islam.
