Allahumma La Mania Lima Hadith

Warrad, the scribe of Al-Mughirah bin Shu‘bah said: Al- Mughirah bin Shubah dictated a letter to me addressed to Muawiyah that the Prophet SAW used to supplicate at the end of each obligatory Salat (prescribed prayer):

“La ilaha illallahu, wahadahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku, wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa ‘ala kulli shai’in Qadir. Allahumma la mania lima a‘taita, wa la mutiya lima manata, wa la yanfau dhal-jaddi mink-aljaddu.

(There is no true god except Allah, the One, Who has no partner. His is the sovereignty and His is the praise, and He is Able to do everything. O Allah! Nobody can withhold what You give; and nobody can give what You withhold; and the high status of a person is of no avail against Your Will).”

Sheikh Ibn Uthaimeen explained that this prayer is a way to surrender to Allah, who is powerful and exalted. No one can reject what He grants, and you can’t receive what He withholds. Thus, when you believe that only Allah can control what you receive, you should only ask from Him.

We should acknowledge that if someone gives us something, it’s because Allah ordained it and used them as a means. While we’re instructed to thank those who are kind to us, ultimately, Allah is the one who facilitated it.

Al-Jadd, referring to wealth and fortune, won’t help us before Allah, as ultimate sovereignty belongs to Him. Even if someone seems to have everything in this world, like family, wealth, and desires fulfilled, these won’t benefit them before Allah. Only Allah can alleviate afflictions and worries. So, submitting to Allah means recognizing His ultimate control.
