Allahumma Khirli Wakhtarli Dua Meaning & in Arabic

“Allahumma khirli wakhtarli” is a brief prayer asking Allah to select what’s best for you. It’s narrated by Imam At-Tirmidhi. However, according to him and other scholars of Hadith, it’s considered weak and not authentic from Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.
According to Islamqa.org, the practice of the Sahabah supports this dua. Therefore, it’s allowed for you to supplicate it during prayers or at other times.

Text Of the Hadith
Aishah narrated from Abu Bakr As-Siddiq,: that whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) wanted to do a matter, he would say: “O Allah, make it good for me and choose for me. (Allāhumma khir lī wakhtar lī)”
Source: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3516

This dua was mentioned in Sunan al-Tirmidhi, but with a weak chain of narrators, which means is not authentic from the sunnah of our beloved Prophet SAW.
There are numerous authentic prayers taught by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for different situations like before sleeping, eating, going out, riding, and more.
Yet, it’s not necessary for a person to remember specific prayers; they can pray whatever they feel comfortable with.
Allah says: “And when My servants ask you, [O Muḥammad], concerning Me – indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.” Surah Baqara verse: 186
So, according to scholars, any prayer, In sha Allah, will be answered by Allah, as long as a person is consuming what is halal (permissible), wearing what is permissible, and spending from what is permissible.
You can pray with these supplications during or outside prayer. The worshiper, or anyone else, has the right to pray for what they desire from the goodness of this world and the hereafter.
It’s mentioned in the explanation of Al-Khurashi on the Mukhtasar Khalil Al-Maliki: When it’s allowed to pray, the person praying can ask for what they desire from anything possible in this world, like an increase in their livelihood or a good spouse.
And if someone is unsure about what action to take or feels hesitant, it’s recommended to ask Allah for help and entrust the matter to Him.
When it comes to Istikhara, it’s only allowed to recite what is authentic from the Sunnah. It’s not a short Dua for Istikhara as some have claimed.
