اللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أَسألُكَ فِعْلَ الْخَيْرَاتِ، وَتَرْكَ الْمُنْكَرَاتِ، وَحُبَّ الْمَسَاكِينِ، وَأَنْ تَغْفِرَ لِي، وَتَرْحَمَنِي، وَإِذَا أَرَدْتَ فِتْنَةَ قَوْمٍ فَتَوَفَّنِي غَيْرَ مَفْتُونٍ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ حُبَّكَ، وَحُبَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّكَ، وَحُبَّ عَمَلٍ يُقَرِّبُنِي إِلَى حُبِّكَ

Transliteration

Allahumma ‘inni as’aluka fi ’lal-khayraat wa tarkal munkaraat wa hubbalmasaakeen wa an taghfira lee watarhamanee wa idha aradta fitnataqawmin fatawaffanee ghayra maftoon, wa as’aluka hubbak wa hubba mai yuhib-buk wa hubba ‘amalin yuqarribunee ilaa hubbik.

Allaahumma inni as’aluka filal khairat means O Allah, I ask You to grant me the performance of good deeds, abandonment of bad ones, and love of the poor; and (I ask You) that You forgive me and have mercy upon me; and if You intend to try a people, cause me to die without being tested; and I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love you, and the love of actions which draw me closer to Your love.

Text of the Hadith

Narrated Mu’adh bin Jabal (رضي الله عنه), that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: that Allah said ‘Ask’ (for something), so the Messenger (ﷺ) made the following dua and then said “Verily it is true so learn it and teach it.”

Similarly, a Dua which can be said Before or After the Salam is:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ فِعْلَ الْخَيْرَاتِ وَتَرْكَ الْمُنْكَرَاتِ وَحُبَّ الْمَسَاكِينِ وَإِذَا أَرَدْتَ بِعِبَادِكَ فِتْنَةً فَاقْبِضْنِي إِلَيْكَ غَيْرَ مَفْتُونٍ

Transliteration: Allahumma inni as’aluka fi’ lal-khayraat wa tark al-munkaraat, wa hubb al-masaakeen, Wa idha aradta bi ‘ibaadika fitnatan, faqbidni ilayka ghayra maftoon.

Meaning: O Allah, I ask You (to enable me) to do good deeds and avoid evil deeds and to love the poor. And If You will that some trial should befall Your slaves, then take me to You [i.e., cause me to die] without having subjected to that trial.
