Commentary
The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say this special prayer every morning and evening, and he told us to do the same.
When you say this prayer, don’t just think about the time of day, but also think about all the good things like health and safety that Allah has given you.
The most important part of this prayer is when you say “by You we live.” It means that everything comes from Allah.
Everything belongs to Allah, so when we say this prayer, we’re showing gratitude and hoping for more kindness from Him.
Remembering that we’ll only die when Allah decides helps us trust Him more and worry less about other people.
When you say this prayer in the evening, you’re reminding yourself that just like the day ends, our lives will end too, and we’ll return to Allah. So, we should always be ready for that moment.
Action Point
This teaching reminds us to stay close to Allah and appreciate all the good things He gives us. We only wake up in the morning and go through the evening because of Allah’s blessings. Our lives are a gift from Him, and we’ll only pass away when He decides.
Always remember to thank Allah for even the smallest blessings you receive. Use your daily routines to remind yourself of the afterlife, so you can get ready for it. Just like how this prayer mentions morning and evening as reminders of the afterlife.
