Allahumma Baid Baini Dua Meaning In English
Allahumma Baid means O Allah, distance me from my sins as you have distanced the east from the west, O Allah, cleanse me of my sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt, O Allah, wash away my sins with water, ice and hail.
Text Of The Hadith
Abu Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam, used to remain silent for a short period, so he asked him: May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allaah. During your silence between Takbeer and recitation, what do you say?” He, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said: I say:
‘O Allaah, cause a distance to be between myself and my mistakes, just as You have caused there to be a distance between the East and West. O Allaah, purify me of my mistakes just as a white garment is purified from any impurities. O Allaah, clean my mistakes off me with water, ice, and hailstones.
Sahih Al Bukhari 744
In his explanation of Riyadus Saliheen, Sheikh Ibn Uthaimeen talked about a saying of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him:
When the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: ‘O Allah, distance me from my sins as you have distanced the east from the west,‘ he meant that the distance between the East and West is the farthest distance people can imagine.
People often use the difference between two things that are very far apart, like the heavens and earth, or like the East and West.
When he, peace be upon him, said: ‘distance me from my sins as you have distanced the east from the west,’ he meant to keep him away from making mistakes so he wouldn’t do them, and to keep him away from the punishment that comes with them if he does commit them.

When he, peace be upon him, said: ‘O Allah, cleanse me of my sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt,‘ he mentioned white because it’s easily affected by impurities and dirt.
Then he asked for the effects of his mistakes to be removed through extra cleansing, like with water, ice, and hailstones. Water purifies, but mentioning ice and hailstones shows that sins have consequences in the Hellfire, which is hot. Ice and hailstones represent cooling and soothing.
“‘O Allah, distance me from my sins as you have distanced the east from the west,’ some scholars say means to keep him away from future sins.
For past sins, it means forgiveness and erasure. Just as the meeting of the East and West is impossible, so should be the closeness to sin, like the proximity of the East and West.”
Then, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “O Allah, cleanse me of my sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt.” This means: “O Allah, purify me from my sins just like a white garment is purified from dirt.
This comparison is made because impurities and dirt are more noticeable on a white garment than on garments of other colors, similar to how the effects of washing are more visible on white than on other colors.
Then, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “O Allah, wash away my sins with water, ice, and hail.” This means: “O Allah, purify me from all that I have done wrong using various purifying agents such as water, snow, and hail, which includes the rain from the clouds.
These examples are mentioned not to specifically refer to these substances, but to emphasize the purification from sins and to strongly erase them.
All of this is a supplication from the Prophet (peace be upon him) seeking forgiveness for sins, even though his previous and future sins had already been forgiven.
