Reference For The Du’a
Scholars mentioned that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did not say or recite the mentioned dua. Some suggest that Imam Ghazali (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned it without a verified chain of narration.
Although some attribute the dua to Sayyidna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), there is no authentic chain of narrations for it.
However, Muslims are encouraged to personally supplicate to Allah for forgiveness, guidance, and strength throughout the day, using their own words and any language that aligns with the Quran and Sunnah.

According to scholars, general supplication (du’aa’) doesn’t have to be mentioned in the Sunnah. It seems that the dua mentioned falls under general supplication, and its words seem permissible and correct upon examination.
IslamQA states that it’s okay for a person to make supplications that aren’t mentioned in reports, as long as they use permissible words and avoid sin or harming others.
While there’s much good in the supplications mentioned in reports, sometimes we may need to make personal supplications for ourselves or loved ones for things in this world or the hereafter, or to seek protection from harm.
You’re not limited to only what’s mentioned in reports when making supplications. What’s important is to sincerely turn to Allah with focus and presence of mind, regardless of the language you’re speaking.
