Alam Tara Kaifa Surah in Arabic, English & Transliteration

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَابِ الْفِيلِ (١) أَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِي تَضْلِيلٍ (٢) وَأَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْرًا أَبَابِيلَ (٣) تَرْمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٍ مِّن سِجِّيلٍ (٤) فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍ مَّأْكُولٍ (٥)

Alam tara kaifa fa’ala Rabbuka bi as habil fil
Alam yaj’al kaiydahum fii tadleel
Wa arsala alaiyhim daiyran abaa bil
Tar meehim bihijaaratin min sijjeel
Fa ja’alahum ka’asfin ma’akuul

Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with the army of the elephant?
Did He not cause their evil plans to go awry.
And send against them birds in flocks.
Pelting them with stones of baked clay.
And making them like a crop devoured and trampled?

Allah showed His strength and kindness when He protected His sacred city, Makkah, from an army that wanted to destroy it. The army came with a big elephant and many soldiers from Ethiopia and Yemen. The people of Makkah were scared and ran away.

But Allah sent birds with hot stones to attack the army. The stones hit all the soldiers, from the first to the last, and they died. Their plan failed, and their story is famous.

This happened the same year the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was born. It was a sign of his important mission to come. We praise and thank Allah for His power and protection.
